Many people don't know how their local fire dept is funded. Check your local fire house and support there events and fundraising if that's how they raise money. If they are funded by taxes only stop in and thank them.

My local fire station is volunteer and is funded primarily through fundraisers. I went to on of their Chicken BBQ's last week.
